Trainee Workshop Assistant / Furniture Maker
We are a small bespoke furniture workshop in Wickhamford, and we’re looking for the right person to join us to assist in the production of high-end bespoke furniture.
In the early stages, the role will focus heavily on workshop support and material preparation, building towards more complex making responsibilities over time.
About the role
This is a hands-on trainee position supporting the day-to-day production of bespoke furniture. In the early stages, the role will focus heavily on:
- Timber preparation
- Component machining support
- Sanding and finishing preparation
- Workshop organisation
- Assisting with assembly
As your skills and reliability develop, you will gradually take on more complex responsibilities. This role suits someone who understands that mastering the fundamentals comes first.
Who this role is for:
- You have some woodworking experience (college, hobby, workshop, or similar)
- You want to pursue furniture making as a career
- You are comfortable starting with foundational tasks and building upward
Full training will be provided, but you must be willing to learn carefully and consistently.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Takes pride in accuracy and detail
- Is curious, eager to learn, and asks good questions
- Follows instructions carefully
- Is reliable, punctual, and respectful of tools and materials
- Shows initiative, while understanding when to check before proceeding
- Has the physical fitness to undertake heavy lifting and stand for extended periods

Duties
- Assist with the manufacture and assembly of furniture using hand tools and power tools
- Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment
- Learn to operate woodworking machinery safely and efficiently
- Support in joinery tasks, including cutting, shaping and fitting
- Preparation work including measuring, marking, and cutting
Location: Based in Wickhamford, so you’ll need to be able to commute reliably.
Pay: In line with UK National Minimum Wage
3–5 days per week (happy to discuss)
